We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Diane Laschet, an experienced international business leader and certified coach. Diane shared with us the nine key steps to ensure your Coaching initiative drives meaningful change and delivers a lasting impact. Whether you’re launching a new office or seeking to enhance leadership effectiveness, these strategies will set you on the path to success.

Enhancing the effectiveness of an international office requires a strategic and intentional approach. A Coaching initiative can prove to be crucial, but for it to be successful and generate a meaningful impact, careful planning is essential at every stage. The following steps offer a structured guide to optimize Coaching programs at international locations, ensuring alignment with company goals and a positive return on investment.

Identify key sponsors

Engage essential leaders and stakeholders, such as the CEO, senior leaders, and HR, to support the Coaching initiative. These sponsors will ensure the program aligns with company goals, fostering commitment and continuity over time. Active leadership support validates the importance of the initiative and motivates participants.

Allocate a dedicated Coaching budget

Designate a specific portion of the training and development budget for Coaching. A well-defined budget covers Coach fees, materials, and any supplementary training sessions, ensuring the program has the resources needed to achieve tangible results.

Define the participants’ role challenges clearly

Clearly identify the challenges and needs of the Coaching participants, aligning on Coaching goals that address the organization’s specific needs. For example, you might set goals around improving leadership or enhancing team collaboration. Defining these areas precisely facilitates measuring progress and outcomes.

Select qualified, culturally-aligned Coaches

Choosing qualified Coaches who are culturally attuned to the organization is crucial. Assess the Coaches’ experience in the required areas and ensure they are compatible with the company’s values and practices, especially in an international context.

Customize the Coaching program

Collaborate with Coaches to tailor the program to the organization and participants. Establish the session length, frequency, and focus based on identified needs. This customization increases the relevance and impact of the Coaching.

Prepare participants for the journey

Inform leaders and managers about the Coaching program’s objectives, structure, and the importance of their active participation. Proper preparation helps participants understand the value of Coaching and engage fully, maximizing the program’s impact.

Monitor progress and gather feedback

Implement tools to track progress, such as periodic assessments or feedback sessions, to evaluate program effectiveness. This approach allows for real-time adjustments, ensuring the Coaching meets expectations and provides concrete benefits.

Evaluate results and impact

At the end of the Coaching program, assess its impact on established goals and collect both qualitative and quantitative data to measure the changes achieved. This step enables you to analyze the program’s return on investment and identify areas for improvement in future initiatives.

Plan post-Coaching support

Develop support plans for participants after the program concludes. Regular check-ins, reinforcement sessions, or continuous learning opportunities can help sustain and strengthen the results, ensuring the positive impact of Coaching endures.

Following these steps helps maximize the effectiveness of Coaching interventions, ensuring they align with strategic goals and create a positive, lasting impact on the organization. With a structured approach, international offices can become hubs of growth and innovation, significantly contributing to the company’s global success.
